THE UNIVERSITY PROJECT
The University Solar Installation was a unique and exciting project for us at ACS. This project presented a set of unique challenges that pushed us to think creatively and adapt our skills to a very different environment than usual. Traditionally, we’ve worked on modern commercial buildings with relatively straightforward designs. However, in this case, we had the privilege of installing solar panels on historic campus buildings - some of which have been standing for hundreds of years!
PROJECT OVERVIEW
Across multiple iconic buildings within the university’s sprawling campus, ACS Energy Ltd was tasked with installing over 1000 solar panels, helping the university take a significant step toward achieving its sustainability goals. These buildings, with their rich history and intricate architectural features, required careful planning, precision, and a flexible approach to ensure that our solar solutions were seamlessly integrated.
KEY CONSIDERATIONS
Historic Buildings:
Working on buildings that have stood for centuries presented numerous challenges. Our team needed to adapt their installation techniques to respect the integrity of these structures, ensuring that the mounting systems were installed without compromising the buildings’ historic features.
Roof Types:
The campus featured a variety of roof types, each with its own set of requirements. The scope included a variety of flat & pitched roofs, requiring different mounting systems and installation methods.
TAILORED SOLAR SOLUTIONS
To meet the specific needs of each building, we utilised two distinct mounting systems across the campus

Van der Valk Mounting Systems
For the flat roof buildings, we fitted Valk Pro 10° mounting systems in both landscape and portrait orientations. These systems are known for their durability and versatility, making them ideal for flat roof installations where stability and long-term performance are critical.

Schletter Mounting Systems
For the pitched roof buildings, we installed Schletter mounting systems o both trapezoidal and standing seam roof types. These systems are designed to provide secure, long-lasting performance, allowing us to ensure that each building received a solar solution tailored to its unique architecture.

WHY THIS PROJECT MATTERS
By supporting the principal contractor integrate solar energy into such a historically significant campus, ACS Energy Ltd is not only helping the university reduce its carbon footprint, but also contributing to its long-term sustainability goals.
This project represents a blend of old and new, where the preservation of history meets the innovation of modern solar technology. We’re proud to have been part of a project that will help the university continue its legacy while making strides toward a greener future.
